Dean is a born and raised Cantabrian and was a secondary school teacher for more than a decade in the North Island before returning in to Christchurch in 2022 when he commenced a role at Sport Canterbury. Dean has had a lifelong association with sport and recreation as a volunteer, a coach, an administrator, he still plays cricket and golf and enjoys coaching the sports his sons are involved with. While not a lawn bowler, his family have had a long involvement with the sport locally so he has a good understanding of the game.
