Born in Darfield Hospital I grew up in the small township of Coalgate and have always remained a country girl at heart. After spending 45 years as a Teacher I retired in 2018 but still remain active in Primary School sport, something I have done for over 45 years. Recently I was made a Life Member of the Canterbury Primary Schools Sports Association. I have been involved in many sports (hockey, tennis, cricket, football, basketball, golf and bowls) as a player, coach and administrator. My passion for bowls has continued to grow over the last 20 years. I was also involved in Scouting for over 15 years and attended four Jamborees. My interests include gardening, reading especially biographies, fishing, DIY and sampling a good dram of single malt. I value discretion and confidentiality, enjoy a challenge and I am looking forward to being a member of the Bowls Canterbury Board.
I Started playing bowls 27 years ago after giving up rugby. I play for the Methven club and also have travelled to Bowls Hornby for the last 17 years to play inter-club. I was president at Methven Bowling Club for 4 years also President of the Methven Rugby Club for 3 years. I have been greenkeeper at Methven and now the green superintendent .I am a life member at Methven Bowling Club and Methven Rugby Club. I have represented Mid-Canterbury ,Canterbury Country and Canterbury in bowls at senior level. My wife Wendy and I have been married for 43 years and have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. We run a seed cleaning business in Methven in which we employ 13 staff.
I have played bowls for one season now and although very different from my previous sport (tennis) I am enjoying it. It’s still challenging and hopefully as I progress I will become more consistent. I have been Treasurer at Rangiora for several years and have found everyone quite friendly and helpful with advice, both on and off the Greens. My father was, and several brothers still are involved in Bowling in Auckland and are waiting for me to improve my skills so I can compete with them. With four grandchildren in North Canterbury (and two in the North Island) and with being self employed I am limited to my days of playing, although that may change as they get older and go to school. Looking forward to a new season of bowls and being part of a dynamic & diverse Board.
Born in bred in Christchurch I developed a lifelong love of Sport through involvement in a wide range of codes as a participant, coach, administrator and most recently as a parent. I have recently moved back to Canterbury with my family after spending many years away living abroad and teaching in secondary schools in Auckland and Hawkes Bay. I now work at Sport Canterbury in the Healthy Active Learning team supporting Primary and Intermediate schools across our region to increase the quality and quantity of Physical Activity available to young people. My personal involvement with Bowls is very much at a socal and recreational level, but my family has had a long involvement with the sport in Christchurch. I look forward to bringing insight into the broader Sport Sector to the Bowls Canterbury board, in particular in the young person’s space.
I first started playing outdoor bowls in Cheviot approximately 45 years ago. I didn’t really have the time or commitment with developing a farm and following our children’s sports, so was very much a social bowler for a number of years. When we moved to Tapanui, West Otago, I played bowls there for about 5 years. I finally found time when retiring to Wanaka to apply more time to bowling. I had 2 years on the Wanaka Bowling Club committee, then 2 years as President, and a further 3 years as treasurer. We moved back to Rangiora, where I joined the local bowling club. I have just completed 3 years as President of RBC, and I have also been bar manager for 5 years. My wife Trish and I have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. We farmed in Cheviot and Tapanui for 40 years, including 3.5 years farming in Eastern Europe (Hungary) in the mid 1980’s. I enjoy the friendliness of the fellow bowlers and the competitiveness of the game.
Hello, my name is Liz Rossiter. I was born in Auckland but grew up in Napier and Hastings. In 1974 I moved to Wairoa in Hawkes Bay.
While living in Wairoa, I raised three young girls and in 1989 I moved with my family (Terry, Fiona, Rebecca and Angela) to the mighty Manawatū, Palmerston North.
In my spare time, you will find me in my garden planting gorgeous flowers and baking for my grandchildren. Previously, I have owned my own business in the automotive trade and now work as a credit consultant in a company owned by my sister.
I have a strong passion for all sports and never miss a netball, tennis or rugby game. Early on in my sporting life, I represented Manawatū and Hawkes Bay in both Netball and Tennis. My bowling experience has meant I have proudly represented both the Manawatū and Canterbury rep teams.
What I love most about bowls is the friendship, the laughs, the challenge and the enjoyment of meeting other people.
I look forward to chatting with you on the green to share our love for this great game.
